Southampton ATC Visit

Many thanks to Mike Glen (OSFS Pilot’s Club Member and Airside Co-ordinator at Southampton Airport) for organising a superb visit to Southampton Airport.

The visit included an airspace briefing from NATS on the local airspace and procedures, visits to the Control Tower & Radar control room, the airport Operations and Fire Service control room, and also a few of our members were lucky enough to be given a ground tour of a Flybe Q400 aircraft – including the chance to try out the Captain’s seat!

All those on the visit had a very enjoyable and informative day, and would like to thank Mike and his colleagues at Southampton airport for making it happen. Perranporth Flyout

Our planned flyout to the Kemble Air Day has been changed – the Air Day is no longer on the scheduled date of Sunday 17th June. We have therefore decided to hold a flyout to Perranporth, Cornwall instead! Please book in at the Ops Desk or 01722 322525 if you’d like to join us.

Open Day

We are holding an Open Day on this year’s May Day Bank Holiday Monday, the 7th of May. Fliers, students, friends and families are all invited; we will have an AT-3, a PA-28, the CAP-10C and the Tiger Moth available to fly on the day.

We are offering discounted 20 min trial lesson prices on the day only;

AT-3 £60

PA-28 £70

CAP-10C £80

Tiger Moth £110

Also, the first 5 flights booked on the day will receive an extra £10 discount, and if you sign up for a PPL pack on the day you will receive a free trial lesson!

There will be a BBQ onsite, provided by the Skies Cafe, and members of staff available all day to field queries, questions and inquires. Please feel free to come along, meet us and try out a trial lesson!

Southampton ATC Visits

One of our Pilot’s Club members, Mike Glen (who works at Southampton Airport), has kindly offered to arrange group visits to the Airport. We have spaces for 6 people (more spaces are negotiable if there is enough interest.The trip will include visits to the Solent Radar controllers, the Tower controllers and time out on the airfield, along with a short presentation on the airspace and infringements.

Anyone who wishes to go will need a current full passport plus a hi vis vest (the latter can be provided!). The date we have allocated is Thursday 26th April.

Quiz Night

Our first OSFS Quiz Night will take place on Friday 30th of March. All pilots, students, friends and family are welcome to come along.

The quiz will start from 1900, doors open from 1800, and bar open till late. No cooked food served, but bar snacks/fish and chips ordered in on request.
